How much does a website cost?

September 17, 2015

Having the opportunity to meet with a lot of potential Apex Digital clients, the question that is asked most often is “So, how much is it going to cost me for a website?” We understand that the majority of decisions made by business owners are price driven. And that, we understand. We too are always looking at where we invest our hard earned dollars to ensure a favourable return on investment. And at the top of our list is the marketing and promotion of our business through our website.

What we hope to do is to turn the conversation around from “How much is it going to cost?” to “How much value am I going to get from my investment?”. We want business owners to stop thinking of their website as a cost centre and start thinking of it as an investment that can generate a return.

So, how much money should you invest in your website?
The pure salesperson’s response is, “Well, it’s going to depend” and to be fair this would also be our initial response. Your business needs are the driver of the scope of the project – these needs will determine the type of site you are looking for, the functionality you desire, whether it needs to integrate with third-party software, requires a payment portal, the look and feel, the assets required (and who is going to provide them) and so on. The more you need, and the more time intensive each requirement is, the higher the investment is likely to be.

When you think of your website try to think of it like your house. Do you want to build new or renovate? How do you determine how much it is going to cost? It comes down to want you want to do, what features you want to include and how big the house is.

And much like building a house, you’re not going to trust the build or renovation to an apprentice or a builder with no proven work history, references or robust building systems in place. Yes, they may be cheaper and they may do the job but are you going to take that risk? Apex Digital are the master builders when it comes to web development – we ensure everything is in the right place, looks great and works as it should. And the added extras provided by the Digital Marketing team (along with our Google Partner accreditation) means that your website is seen by all.

When it comes to comparing our quote to those of our competitors, it’s important to know that our goal is to provide a website for you that is valuable to your business and one that makes your life easier. Our team is committed to making your business a success – not just your website. You really do get what you pay for and we’re good at what we do. You get years of experience, access to some of the best minds in the industry along with security and peace of mind. You get exceptional customer service and communication and you’ll get advice and recommendations every step of the way. We have plenty of clients that we like to call friends after completing works for them. You can check out what they have to say by visiting our portfolio page.

Let’s revisit the house analogy again. Your house is likely to be one of the biggest investments of your lifetime. You’ll note that we’re actually referring to your house as an investment not a cost. And the same goes for your website. When we consider your website investment, what we’re actually considering is the value we can create and that’s what we’re passionate about here at Apex Digital.

And when we are considering the value we can create we’re also mindful of what a favourable return on investment looks like to you. If you’re selling widgets how many widgets do you need to sell to break even? To make a profit? How long will it take to recoup your initial investment and how do you track this?

A key differentiator between Apex Digital and its competitors is our support mechanisms. You have access to our 24/7 support service and a dedicated support staff to call on. Our one desire is that you never feel alone while navigating your way through the internet minefield. We never design, build and walk away – we’re here with you every step of the journey.

The proof of the strength of our support services is evident in the number of recent websites we’ve taken over to host and support. We’ve heard of instances of very poor communication, inability to make contact or get responses to queries, price hikes for no particular additional features, long lead in times for work commencement and completion and generally just poor customer service.

Why are we so busy?
Quite simply it’s our reputation for delivering a first class product that makes a real difference to our client’s businesses and having the ongoing support service to back it up.

You can be assured that at Apex Digital client communication and customer service is a corner stone of our offering. We pride ourselves on our openness, honesty, professionalism and of course our ability, so it’s great to see that businesses see the value in employing Apex Digital to manage their online needs. The comparisons between the ‘then and now’ once clients make the switch can be like chalk and cheese.

Time to talk?
Thinking of developing or refreshing your website? Would like to know more about digital marketing and how it can drive business your way?
