19 Blog Post Ideas To Write About

Being seen as a blogging authority in your industry takes time and a steadfast focus on creating lots of extremely valuable content. For many this latter part starts out well, but then quickly becomes a daily/weekly or monthly struggle and unfortunately oftentimes gets left in the ‘too hard basket’.  A common question that clients often ask when starting out with blogging is: ‘What Should I Blog About?’

While you are no doubt an expert on your subject matter, it can be helpful to have a list of topic generators to refer to. 

If you are suffering from a bit of writers block take a few minutes to consider how you could use the following blog post ideas in relation to your industry/niche:

  1. Write a ‘top ten’ list that is relevant to your product/service/industry
  2. Write a ‘how to’ guide about using your product/service
  3. Publish an interview about someone in your industry
  4. Write about currents events in you niche
  5. Write a ‘pros’ and ‘cons’, or ‘advantages’ and ‘disadvantages’ list
  6. Write a tutorial
  7. Find guest bloggers to write a post e.g. other people from within your industry who might be willing to write content for your blog
  8. Write a post about frequently asked questions in your niche
  9. Write a post for beginners/advanced readers
  10. List and discuss online resources for people within your industry
  11. Review common myths in your industry and deflate them
  12. Make a list of the top ten blogs within your industry
  13. Compare your national market to international markets
  14. Discuss why you disagree with a particular viewpoint in your industry
  15. Write a ‘part 2’ to a popular post you have previously written about
  16. Create a list of jargon used in your niche/industry
  17. Discuss the ‘what’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ of something
  18. Discuss a problem faced and how you/your business overcame it
  19. Write a list of books/articles worth reading in your industry 

In combination with an on-going search engine marketing campaign, posting blogs regularly helps to keep your site top of mind for relevant search queries as the search engines are able to continually gain more insight into what it is that you do. Blog posts are also a great vehicle for driving ‘long-tail’ keyword traffic to your site. 

Writing great content also encourages your audience to link to your content, share it on social networks, and/or comment about what a great blog/blog posts you have. This kind of social  interaction with your blog sends valuable signals to the search engines that others are interested in what you are posting. These signals work to enhance the level of authority associated with your blog and website in general. 

While writing engaging and high quality content is the key to a successful blog, there are also a few basic blog features that can hinder your blogs performance, so it is worthwhile ensuring that your blog also has these generally expected user features in place.
